Creating this mug was transformational for me. I really fell in love with this shape and the throwing process of it. This was the very last mug i made in this collection this handle is my absolute favorite. It really pushed what i previously perceived handles to be and has triggered a whole new journey for me within ceramics.
With the glazing i had an idea of what it could look like but seeing it comes out of the firing the reaction superseded all of my expectations. I love the weathered look the glaze on the body has.
These pieces were fired to temperatures hotter than lava and the look of erosion that naturally occurred is so beautiful to me. I have used that glaze many times and never gotten this result. Irreplicable accidental beauty. the glaze along the rim is a glaze that crystallizes in the kiln due to a chemical reaction.
All along the border when you look closely you see the crystal beginning to form. Every firing reacts differently and creates different patterns. The depth in the mush head is one of favorites
